Description: A rare example of a simple courtyard castle of the 13th century, the ruined curtain walls forming the basis of a folly built in 1794 for the last Earl of Marchmont.

How to get there: By car: In the village of Hume, which lies between Kelso and Greenlaw, just off the B6364 road. By public transport: Duns to Kelso bus service, regular but spasmodic, passes through Hume.
Seasonal opening details (2006): 1st April to 31st October. Key available from large house opposite castle during period 3rd Jan to 31st March.
