Description:A 25 hectare reserve with open water and marsh vegetation surrounded by grassland and woodland. There is a breeding colony of some 14,000 pairs of black headed gulls, and it also supports a wintering population of wigeon and greylag geese. It supports on its fringes interesting and varied wildlife.

How to get there:
By car: It lies 4 miles east of Melrose. To approach, go to St Boswells and take the B6404 road through the village. Carry on over Mertoun Bridge, crossing the River Tweed, and at the top of the hill turn left � signposted Dryburgh. About 100 yards ahead, when the road swings to the left, carry straight on along a minor road signposted Brotherstone. The road swings to the right which will take you to the Moss.
